A film about the process of painting, thinking and the inclusion of the artist in his world of observation and being observed.
A film by Wolfgang H Scholz
In this portrait, Gerda Lepke talks for the first time about her life story and her difficult path to becoming an accepted artist, her development into a person who is particularly committed to women in the art scene.
She looks back at the artistic landscape during the GDR era and its confrontation with the propagated socialist art during this time. Gerda Lepke offers her current work and projects for the coming years. We experience her in her studio and home in Gera and Dresden, live with her the current work process and the relationships and encounters with her friends and fellow artists.
An encounter and friendship that began in the mid-80s took me to the „Garden of a Painter“. So I was able to realize a project that, through personal closeness, led to a portrait of a painter in a soliloquy. In every phase of the production of this film - for me there were surprisingly new encounters with the work and life of the artist Gerda Lepke.
