International theatrical feature film by Wolfgang H Scholz
A film of a journey to the "abandoned world".
A journey from west to east to a Germany of memory.
We never stop searching, and yet, at the end of all our searching
are we back at the starting point and will capture this place for the first time.
T.S. Eliot Little Gidding
A philosophical road movie about the question of the value of memory.
In 2010, while viewing 16 mm of material in his archive, Wolfgang H Scholz discovered film material that he had shot himself between 1987 and 1989. He was surprised at how this rough cut still worked today (or especially now after 20 years) and could describe a term from the "standing time" in Dresden in 1988 - shortly before the fall of the Wall. Thus, over a period of development and financing of more than 3 years, the script for the film, which was partly autobiographical, was created.
The film tells the story of Martin S., his return to Dresden, that he left more than 20 years ago. He discovered some film materials of his own that he shot in 1988,
and came upon his files held by the State security where there was information given by a person which contained details that could only be known by, his then
first love. So begins his search and questioning about his memories and a testing the believed reality. It is not a political description of the circumstances, but
rather a film about images, emotions and philosophical relations of that time - a year before the fall of the Berlin wall. It is a fiction film on the theme of memories
and forgetting, with questions related to the term of “homeland” and arriving.
