Documentary about a body building group in the former GDR, in Dresden.
A film about the rhythm and conscious torment of the exercises with the iron, self-welded devices. A story about the idea and dreams of strength, power and special physical charisma.
A film by Wolfgang H Scholz
In the GDR, body building was considered a "capitalist branch" of strength training. Public events could only take place under the guise of a "sporting setting" (in addition to a weightlifting competition as a kind of tolerated show).
When I started the film in 1987, one of the protargonists was 22 years old and his health was very damaged by taking anabolic steroids. He worked as a tenant of the women's toilets at Dresden-Neustadt train station, was a member of the SED and party group organizer of the toilet tenants in Dresden.
